Intestinal Problems

The normal functions and processes of the intestine can be “affected” or “disrupted” by some disorders and diseases. Usually, these disorders are caused by eating the wrong food, malabsorption, or a GI organ malfunction. Here is a list of some of the most commonly diagnosed Intestinal problems:

1) Ileus - the intestine is blocked resulting to mechanical bowel obstruction.

2) Gastroenteritis - inflammation of the intestines; inflammation is usually caused by infection with certain viruses.

3) Colitis - an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

4) Appendicitis - involves the inflammation of the vermiform appendix. The disease is fatal if left untreated.

5) Crohn's disease - is another form of IBD. If left untreated for a long time, it can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract.

6) Enteroviruses

7) Coeliac disease - a form of “malabsorption.” The disease is caused by the allergy to gluten proteins (those commonly found in wheat, barley, and rye).

8) Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) - an intestinal disorder that involves functional constipation and chronic functional abdominal pain.

9) Diverticular disease - this disease occurs when "pouches" form on the intestinal wall. It can affect both the small and large intestine.

10) Bowel Twist - a rare but fatal disorder. It results from a severely restricted blood supply to part of the bowel.
